CLICK HERE FOR THE TEAM CANADA APPLICATION FORM/LIVE TRYOUT PRE-REGISTRATION.

We strongly encourage athletes to attend the live tryout as athletes will have hours of time to impress coaches rather than the length of a video tryout.

Teams will be announced on December 9th

Benefits of attending the live tryouts —

  • meeting the coaches in person can be to your advantage – you can’t capture ‘personality’ or work ethic on video
  • coaches can see your ‘stick’ ability if stunts are a bit off. With video, applicants edit out errors but live we can see your ability to fight for a stunt
  • you get to meet a number of other potential Team Canada athletes.  You may be asked to try some skills with one another bettering your chances to make the team.
  • athlete’s potential becomes a factor live whereas it can’t be assessed by video
  • technique feedback can be given live, you might learn something
  • coaches can watch your improvement if we give you a new skill to try, can’t on video
  • it may be difficult for you to shoot a video:  finding gym space with a non-sprung floor might be difficult/impossible for some, or, perhaps your stunt group members live far from you.

Team Canada Tryout Requirements

General:

  • Males try out as either a tumbling specialist or as a stunt specialist, however, it will be an advantage to be good at both. Tumbling specialists will not benefit the team unless they are capable of basing pyramids and baskets at minimum. Stunting specialists who have no tumbling skills may be out-scored by those who can.
  • Female flyers only. Those who have excellent skills across all categories (stunting, tumbling, baskets, pyramids) will have an advantage.
  • Groups/partners are encouraged to submit one video for the group/pair, or, to attend the live tryout as a group/pair. Individuals who attend live tryouts without a group/partner might not get an opportunity to show what you can do. It is not Team Canada’s responsibility to find one for you.
  • If you don’t have one or more of the listed skills there is still a chance you may make the roster. Athletes are to show their most difficult, yet clean, skill in each of the categories. Should you not be able to cleanly perform a listed skill show a modified version of that skill that you can perform with good technique. Example, standing springs to layout if you don’t have a full twist, rewind to target/block if you don’t have rewind to immediate body position, etc.
  • Do not add anything else to your video. This includes skits, bloopers, costumes, etc. Let your skill set speak for itself.
  • All tumbling skills must be performed on a non-sprung surface, no exceptions.
  • All athletes must be WADA compliant.
